we care about your family
We help by supporting families with essential Care packs as they navigate through their Neonatal or Baby Loss Journey's.
Bringing love, support, experience and compassion.
As well as an opportunity to make precious and happy memories out of difficult situations.
We also provide Aroha care packages to individuals across NZ struggling with mental health, with a handwritten card of love in every pack to remind people that they are not alone and that they are loved.

Some of the packs that have gone out so far
"I got my pack a while ago and I wanted to publicly thank you for what you do here. It really made me feel loved and cared for in a crazy and overwhelming time. There were so many care items for me and bubs. I think of you and this service each time I use the crocheted blanket in the car." - Pack Recipient Jan 2024
"I went into spontaneous labour at 32+5.. Hubby and I had some things but were not prepared for an early arrival!... a family member requested a care package... much needed prem clothes and even a few essentials for me. it's was very much appreciated." - Pack Recipient 2017
Kenzo was born on the 7th day of lockdown (01.04.20) weighing 987g at 32w... It was hard enough having my first baby early... for the first 54 days I visited Kenzo alone without his Dad, Tauranga was only allowing Mom's in.... When our box arrived it was the best feeling, I felt like I wasn't alone, like someone was watching out for us.... It gave me time to stop worrying about everything we didn't have just yet, it gave me the opportunity to relax & just enjoy my baby...
Also the father's day boxes, Dad she'd a wee tear opening his last week.... For the first time since Kenzo was born Dad finally was acknowledged by someone outside our family... From my family to yours, thank you so much- Pack Recipient 2020 |
Hi Chercara,
Many thanks for the 4 huge boxes of Christmas gifts for our potential babies over the Christmas period. What a thrill the parents will have. Thank you also for the gifts for the staff. Its not often the staff are acknowledged, and we sincerely thank you for the gifts. Your work is greatly appreciated. - Neonatal Recipient Dec 2023 "I received one when my baby was in scbu, I loved it so much!... he was 1.3 kgs and 28 weeks... Those boxes made our Christmas last year." -Recipient Christmas 2018

Our mission...
Our Mission is to bring the joy back to what should be a special time of a family's life
by hopefully removing the stress.
We want to make sure that every baby has decent clothing to wear,
blankets to keep them warm,
and a safe and comfortable place to sleep
as well as all the other necessities that are needed for our babies.
We want to see suicide and negative mental health stats drop,
by reminding people of how important and
loved they are and that they not alone.
When families receive our packs we want them to feel Blessed
and not like they need the help.
Our packs are a gift in the middle of a storm.
by hopefully removing the stress.

a bit about us...
My name is Chercara, I am a mummy to 4 beautiful miracles all born prematurely,
with my amazing husband Matt by our side.
I have been running Care for Families approx. 12 years full time as a registered charity.
I work alongside 9 amazing part time volunteers.
We have a few companies that have stood by us for the test of time incl. Brake and Auto Services, Small Babies, Ethos & Co. Generosity Coffee, and Synergistic Accounting
We would also like to welcome our newest Brand Partner Grin Natural we are so thankful for all of you!!
As well as many other amazing companies that donate what they can when they can.
Care for Families is a registered non profit charity (which means you can claim tax back on your donations).
We do starter packs for families in neonatal units across the country.
We have joined with multiples NZ so every baby requiring neonatal care or born to a multiple family receives a pack which is over approx. 10,000 babies a year.
We also do approx. 600 bereavement packs each year,
so Families don't have to go looking for charities that do keepsakes
and they can know what's available at short notice.
We also provide Aroha boxes to individuals across NZ struggling with mental health,
to remind them that they are loved and not alone.
Our packs are all completely free of charge, apart from a small donation toward courier costs.
Our biggest need most often is for blankets, swaddles, teddies, nappies, wipes and story books for our NICU packs.
and for Self Care products for men and women for our Aroha Boxes.
